Diffused aeration systems are a great way to keep your pond, lake, fishery or reservoir in the best condition.
Diffused air aeration systems are installed to prevent thermal stratification. During warmer periods water bodies will tend to suffer from thermal stratification, which occurs when the water in your pond, lake or reservoir becomes separated into layers. The top layer will contain oxygen-rich, warmer water whilst the bottom layer is comprised of cooler, oxygen-deficient water. These two layers are separated and this is known as a thermocline. The reason the top and bottom layers do not mix is because of the differences in density within the thermocline.
Diffused aeration systems work by pumping air through the membranes in the form of millions of tiny bubbles. As these bubbles travel to the water surface through the layers of thermal stratification they carry (entrain) cooler, oxygen-deficient water from the bottom layer up with them. The water then becomes naturally oxygenated as it reaches the surface.
From the circulation and aerating of the lower levels, toxic gases that would normally be trapped in the lower layer can be released. A balanced habitat for aquatic life is then maintained. This process creates healthy aerobic conditions at the lower levels of the pond or lake. This is where microbial processes can naturally break down nutrients that would otherwise produce noxious aquatic weed and algae. The noxious aquatic weed and algae clogs up your lake or reservoir and reduces water quality substantially.
As well as creating an ecological balance within your pond or lake, the use of a diffused aeration system throughout the winter will keep waterbodies open during the freezing months for birds and other wildlife.

Sometimes the lack of power available means a specialist aeration system is required and with the rising energy costs, there is no better option than a solar-powered subsurface aeration system to help keep monthly energy costs down. Heathland Group’s research and development team have engineered the most efficient solar aeration system available on today’s global market.
The OxiAir HD diffused lake aerator is designed and developed with depth in mind. These diffused lake aerators can aerate your lake in depths up to 10m+. The super silent bankside compressor pumps air through the diffuser membranes situated on the lake bed. This diffused aeration system has been designed and manufactured by our team here in the UK.
Read full articleWastewater aeration is a crucial process in the treatment of contaminated water, where air is intentionally introduced into the wastewater to facilitate the growth and activity of aerobic microorganisms. This method harnesses the power of oxygen to support the metabolic processes of bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms that thrive in oxygen-rich environments.

These fountains are designed to create impressive displays of water jets, patterns, and sometimes synchronized lighting effects. They can be installed in both natural and curated...
Heathland Fountains and Aerators were contacted by a domestic client in Essex for a quote in May 2019. The client has a lake on his property where he required a floating lake fountain for aeration. Fountain lighting to create a stunning evening garden display also formed part of the client brief.
Here at Heathland Group, we offer two types of lake aeration, diffused aeration, and floating aeration to help you efficiently aerate your lake. A diffused aerator pumps air through the diffuser membranes, which then travels to the surface in the form of millions of tiny bubbles...
